The Importance of Keeping it Current

Keeping your site current is one of the most important things about having an attractive and effective online presence. If people visit your site and see that it’s out-of-date, they may not want to visit your site again, much less your church. We've asked some of our best customers what they do to make sure that their sites are fresh and current and here are some of the great tips they gave:

  • ClockDedicate 10 minutes on a particular day each week to clean out old stuff and add new stuff to your site. Spend more time if you are able, but commit to at least 10 minutes.
  • Have a _______ of the week on your site. It could be an album of the week, a question of the week or a deep thought of the week. This will give you the added motivation to make sure that you are touching your site regularly to make changes. Some pastors have even worked the _______ of the week into their weekly programs by announcing the results of the weekly survey or reading an excerpt from the weekly discussion.
  • Have a few volunteers who are committed to upkeep of certain areas of your site. Sometimes, the best ideas come from outside perspectives.
  • Try to highlight one upcoming event in a prominent location on your site. This will show people right away when they come to your site that you have an up-to-date website. Make sure that you change the event on your site as soon as it passes.
  • Commit to taking a dozen or more pictures at each event. Upload these pictures to your site the next day. While you're at it, take down a few of the old pictures.
  • Come up with a image and a few questions for each teaching series that you do. Have a place where users can interact on your site based on the current series.
  • The more excuses that people have to visit your site (like images, interactive forms, surveys, sermons, discussion boards etc.) the more traffic you will have. This traffic often times provides the perfect motivation and reminder to keep things current.
